We have all heard the prayer that asks God to makes us instruments of peace. Yet this simple prayer seems impossible to live out in our daily lives. According to author Kent Nerburn, in his book Make Me an Instrument of Your Peace,
“The prayer of St. Francis… shines through all the contradictions and illuminates the way of the spirit like a light from the heart of God. It asks nothing of us that we cannot do, yet it commands the impossible. It is a mighty shout from a mountaintop and quiet entreaty whispered with bowed head. It is profoundly and decidedly Christian yet irrefutably and fundamentally universal. It is a gentle hand guiding us along the long and difficult pathway to God.”
This weekend retreat is designed to take a closer look at the simple truths contained in St. Francis’ prayer. We will examine each part of the prayer and begin to learn how to apply it in our daily lives.
